Richard Zielinski (Fall Concert)
Richard Zielinski is known for his innovative programming and versatility as both an choral and orchestral conductor. A passionate and compelling communicator, with an extensive knowledge of classical and contemporary repertoire, Richard also serves as music and artistic director for the Norman Philharmonic in Oklahoma. Richard is also a Professor and Director of Choral Activities at the University of Oklahoma. Zielinski is in his eleventh year as artistic director of the Classical Music Festival, in Eisenstadt, Austria. Zielinski continues to serve as Director of Music Ministries at McFarlin Memorial UMC, Norman, Oklahoma and conductor of the Richard Zielinski Singers.
Richard holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Choral Music from the University of Illinois, two Master of Music degrees, in Choral Conducting and Vocal Performance, from the Eastman School of Music, and a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
Mark Beckwith (Christmas Concert)
No stranger to the Bartlesville Choral Society audience, Mark Beckwith is a California native who married a girl from Bartlesville, and you know how that goes. Forever a career church musician, he was a professional performing artist in opera, musical theater and on the concert stage appearing throughout the USA from 1977 to 1995. Under contract to the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hollywood Bowl and LA Opera from 1985-1995 he sang with most of the world's great orchestras under most of the greatest conductors of our time. In 1994 Beckwith closed the book on the stage to try his hand at conducting choirs and orchestras. Beckwith is synonymous in Northeast Oklahoma for leading Handel's Messiah sing-along events at Christmas time since 2001. As an Oklahoma State Artist-In-Residence and Touring Artist, he has served Susan Mueller and the Bartlesville Choral Society as assistant conductor since 2004.
He met his wife, Bartlesville's own Kathy Stewart, on the stage of the Los Angeles Music Center Opera in 1987. An Oklahoman since 1995, he now resides in Osage County, making beautiful music with Ms. Stewart and their adult daughter Megan.
Jonathan Stewart (Spring Concert)
Dr. Jonathan Stewart has served as professor of music at Oklahoma Wesleyan University (OKWU) for the past 9 years, where he directs the Chorale, Contemporary Ensemble and Instrumental Jazz Ensemble, as well as teaching private voice, choral conducting, and music appreciation. He directs the annual OKWU Choral Festival for area high school and junior high choral students, which has been going for the past 6 years. He is a member of the Oklahoma Music Educators Association and serves on the board of the Bartlesville Musical Research Society.
His educational background includes a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Southeast Missouri State University, a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Music Education from Boston University. As part of his masters and then his doctoral degree, he has done extensive research involving the part songs of Franz Joseph Haydn and the practice of aural arranging within the practice of contemporary a cappella respectively. Dr. Stewart enjoys sharing his passion for music with his students through his perspective having been a music minister, elementary and collegiate music teacher, vocal soloist, and choral conductor. Dr. Stewart currently lives in Bartlesville with his beautiful wife, Ellynn, and two youngest children, Heather and Joshua.
